Sustainability
Italy is our home, and we are committed to preserving its natural beauty for future generations. Through our partnership with WOWnature, we restore and protect forests by planting trees, conserving biodiversity, and promoting environmental sustainability.
For every tenth group tour that travels with us, we will plant a tree in your name, contributing to the reforestation of two stunning areas: Lio Piccolo in Venice’s lagoon and Torbiere del Sebino near Lake Iseo.
Together, we can ensure Italy remains a destination of wonder for years to come.
In which areas will we be planting trees?
Venice Lagoon
Lio Piccolo, in the northern Venice Lagoon, is a tranquil, biodiverse area of salt marshes, brackish lagoons, and mudflats. Halophytic plants like glasswort and sea lavender thrive alongside eelgrass, supporting rich marine life. A haven for birds such as flamingos, egrets, and avocets, it also shelters fish and crustaceans vital to local traditions. Reed beds and tamarisk shrubs provide habitat for wildlife, while canals and dikes reflect centuries of human activity. Balancing agriculture and nature, Lio Piccolo is a vital, serene ecosystem within the Venice Lagoon.
Lake District
The Torbiere del Sebino nature reserve, located near Lake Iseo, is a rich ecosystem of wetlands, reed beds, and freshwater marshes. Surrounded by cultivated fields, it is a biodiversity hotspot, home to diverse plant species and migratory birds. The reserve's varied habitats, including shallow waters and peat bogs, support unique flora like cattails and water lilies. It plays a vital role in preserving regional biodiversity and is a serene, vital sanctuary for wildlife and nature enthusiasts alike.
Responsible Travel
Our itineraries are designed to support local communities and businesses, offering authentic experiences that positively impact the regions we explore. Through long-lasting partnerships with local wineries, artisans, food producers, and historic workshops, we embrace regional heritage while fostering the prosperity and preservation of these communities. Our tours immerse travelers in local culture, with a focus on small towns and villages, particularly in our Borghi themed tours, which uncover hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path destinations. Our Events themed tours highlight seasonal festivals like wine festivals, olive harvests, and traditional fairs, providing unique cultural encounters while promoting local producers. We are also committed to eco-friendly travel by collaborating with eco-certified hotels and encouraging train travel, as showcased in our Train themed tours.
Preserving Culture & Heritage
San Casciano dei Bagni, in southern Tuscany, is home to over forty thermal springs, with the Bagno Grande being the most notable. In November 2022, 24 perfectly preserved bronze statues were discovered at the site, marking one of the most significant Etruscan and Roman finds in the Mediterranean. Michelangelo International Travel is proud to support this cultural project, helping preserve and promote this incredible heritage.
This remarkable find underscores our commitment to preserving and celebrating culture, ensuring these priceless pieces of history are safeguarded for future generations.
